FPT Questions on Nov 2011 Dun Sitting

1. To ask the Minister of Industrial Development (written answer):

Jobs in oil and gas sectors for Sarawakians has become scarce in
Sarawak.
a. Please state the percentage of Sarawakian workers / staffs employed
by Shell and Petronas in Miri offshore and onshore.
b. Please state the percentage and number of licensed contractors in
Shell and Petronas in Miri
who are Sarawak based companies.
c. How many contracts have been awarded to the local companies
(Sarawak based companies) and how many awarded to non-local companies
(non-Sarawak based companies) during last 3 years (2008, 2009, 2010)?
Please also state the scale of the contract in monetary term.

2. To ask the Minister of Infrastructure Development and
Communications (written answer):

There is heavy traffic congestion particularly at Jalan Pujut 7 to
Desa Pujut and Tudan Road every day.
a. When will the Pujut 7 bridge and road expansion project be
completed?
b. Is there any plan for upgrading the Tudan Road? If yes, please
state the project commencement date. If no, please state why?
c. Is there any road development project for the Padang Kerbau bypass
where traffic flow can be directed from Pujut 7? If yes, when will the
project commence. If no please state why?


3. To ask the Chief Minister (written answer):

Chinese medium schools in Bandar Miri are over-packed. There is an
urgent need to build at least TWO Chinese medium primary schools in
the down town area.
a. Could a portion of the empty land near Boulevard Commercial Centre
(now used by JKR) be allocated for the construction of a new Chinese
medium primary school in that area? If the answer is in the negative,
please state why?
c. There is a plan for re-allocation of SJK (C) North Miri and a piece
of land also has been allocated for the school. When will the land
tittle be issued to the school?

4. To ask the Minister of Housing (oral answer):

The squatter problem has become more serious in recent years in Miri.
In year 2000, many squatters in Canada Hill were resettled in the
Tudan area. However, there are still many empty lots in phase 6 Tudan
after the re-allocation.
a. In the Phase 6 Tudan or other resettlement area, how many empty
lots are still available which have not been given out since the last
allocation?
b. Is there any plan for a re-allocation scheme for those illegal
squatter kampongs in Bandar Miri in the near future? If no, please
state the reason.

5. To ask the Minister of Housing (written answer):

On low cost housing development plan in Bandar Miri.
Is there going to be a low cost housing development project in Miri?
Where will the project be located? What are the commencement and
completion dates? How much does it cost for a unit of the house?

6. To ask the Minister of Tourism (oral answer):

Miri is a resort city, so called a city for tourism. However, there is
insufficient tour guides
for the tourism industry in Miri.
a. Can the state government provide incentives to the local colleges
or Curtin University in Miri in order to encourage them to conduct
tour guides training courses?
b. If cannot, please state the reason?

7. To ask the Minister of Public Utilities (written answer):

After getting power supply from Bakun Dam, so many power failures have
occurred last few months in Miri.
a. What is the consumption (how many megawatts) of the electricity in
Miri City?
b. What is the capacity of the SESCo power plant in Pujut 1, Miri, the
volume and cost of gas required for the said SESCo power plant.
c. What measures will be implemented to reduce damage from power
failure in Miri.

8. To ask the Minister of Resource Planning & Environment (written
answer):

Several Dams are being built or going to be built in Ulu Baram. There
are issues raised on the costs and safety of the dams, the ecological
damage to the vast area of tropical rainforests and the relocation of
thousands of indigenous people who all depend on the forests for their
living.
a. State the number of dams to be built in Ulu Baram, the costs
involved, the exact locations, and how they will benefit Sarawak.
b. Were there be open tenders for these dams construction projects? If
yes, please list companies that have tendered and the reason for
choosing the Company which tendered successfully?
c. How and to where will the people in the area affected by the dam
projects be relocated and compensated for losing their lands?
d. What measures will be taken to minimize the damage and loss in the
event of the dams collapse in order to assure all the Sarawakians that
the government is prepared for all possibilities. Please
also state how much is the estimated loss and damage in the event of
these dams collapse.

9. To ask the Minister of Welfare, Women & Family Development (written
answer):

On divorced and single mothers in Miri who have difficulties in
looking after their children or to compete at the same platform for
job opportunities and earning capacity.
a. Please state how many registered women societies are there in Miri,
which can lend assistance to single mothers?
b. Has there been plan and fund allocated to build service or training
centres and child care centres for single mothers in Miri in order to
assist them to stand a fair chance in job opportunities in the society
and offer them support? If no, please state the reason(s).
c. How will the state government help single mothers who intend to
start small business in
Miri?

10. To ask the Chief Minister and/or the Minister of Local Government
& Community Development (written answer):

On Miri Hospital
a. How much fund is allocated or costs incurred in average per year
for Miri Hospital in the past three (3) years?
b. What is the ratio of doctor to the number of people in Miri as at
todate?
c. When will Miri Hospital be upgraded to tertiary level and whether
there will be more Miri based specialists to be stationed therein in
near future? If there is no plan yet, please state the reasons.
